Is the GE Dishwasher not starting? Check These Four Things
You have a fully loaded dishwasher and a detergent dispenser, but when you press Start, nothing happens. This sounds familiar. Although a GE dishwasher that won’t start can cause panic, you don’t need to worry. You can quickly solve the problem by checking for common causes like power issues or incorrect cycle settings.
Common causes of a GE Dishwasher not starting
How do you fix a GE dishwashing machine that won’t turn on? The source of the issue can be found by troubleshooting. Many of these problems can be fixed at home.
Power Not Working in Dishwasher
Sometimes, a GE dishwashing machine will not start. This is due to a power problem rather than a malfunction. Check your dishwasher’s electrical outlets to ensure they are working correctly. Verify that the power switch has been turned on. The switch is usually located on the wall or under the sink. Check your home’s circuit breaker or fuse box for any blown or tripped fuses. Replace blown fuses or reposition any tripped breaker.
Problem with Water Supply
Your GE dishwasher may not start due to a water supply issue. Check the water valve of the dishwasher to make sure it is on, and inspect the water supply hose. You can straighten a kink in the hose with care, but if it is cracked or leaks, you must replace it. A faulty water inlet valve may cause a GE dishwasher that won’t start if the supply valve (and hose) are working correctly. This valve allows water to enter the dishwashing machine at the correct points during the wash cycle. It is recommended that you have a professional assess the valve and replace it if necessary.
The dishwasher cycle settings need to be corrected
Before you start your dishwasher, select the cycle. The dishwasher will begin once the cycle has been chosen. GE’s dishwasher child lock, or Delay Start features can stop an immediate start. Check the control panel display codes for these settings. You can turn off a selected cycle by pressing the Start Button for 3 seconds. Sometimes, moisture or damage to a control panel can cause GE’s dishwasher display to stop working. This prevents cycle selection. If the display is damaged, we recommend having a professional technician assess and replace it.
My Dishwasher’s Door isn’t Latched
Lastly, a dishwasher will only work if you properly secure the door. Ensure that the door cannot be blocked. Knowing how to load dishes correctly can help ensure the doors close properly. Verify the door latch and confirm that it is engaged. If your GE washer does not begin to run even though you have closed the door properly, then the latch or switch could be malfunctioning. The door switch may not work if the door latch has broken. Even if the door latch is engaged, the switch may malfunction and not send out the signal that begins the dishwasher. In both cases, it is necessary to replace the two components. We can offer you professional dishwasher maintenance or tips on how to clean your dishwasher.
